今天小編要介紹的片語是【go by】 to use (something) as a guide or help in doing something:

Ex.

1.     We’re not sure if we’ll get there – all we have to go by is some barely legible directions.

2.     The pupils were told that if they went by the rule, they would not get into trouble.

3.     I went by the recipe, but the cake turned out to be inedible.
