本週片語[ see to ]:to go (somewhere) with (someone) to make sure that he/she gets there safely, to escort (someone) to (somewhere)

Ex.

1.      Elsie’s escort saw her to the door of her flat.

2.      Bill didn’t go in the taxi with his mother, but he saw her to it

Escort: 護航，護送

Flat:公寓

See to 護送，照料，保護…到(某地)，這意思比較少被使用。

比較常用的句型為see to it that..解釋為 務必留心、留意與注意…的意思

例如 See to it that you are ready on time. 務必(注意)準時準備完成。

追趕上某事或人。

本週片語[ settle for]:  accept (something) although it is not quite what you wanted.

Ex.

1.      I wanted to go to Europe, but I’ll settle for a holiday anywhere.

2.      Mike has realized that he will have to settle for the place at the local college although he had wanted to go to university.

不是非常願意，也就免強接受…

我們口語長說，退而求其次，這可以用這片語

I settled for anything that was second best.

下次女友問男士們，”為何你會選擇我”

可以跟女友這樣回答看看……(誤)…><

Chaperone= chaperon : someone, usually a parent or teacher, who is responsible for young people on social occasions.

監護人、陪伴者的意思囉!! 另外，之前有說過custody也是監護人的意思。

例如

1.      If you don’t advertise the concert, you won’t pull in enough people to make a profit.

2.      The advertising posters certainly pulled the crowds in.

3.      There were crowds of people at the meeting and it was definitely the advertising campaign that had pulled them in.

吸引…(參與一些活動)，另外還有(火車，交通工具)到站的意思
